Welcome to Skydive Atlanta
The first thing you might be asking yourself about skydiving is whether or not it is safe. How cautious do you need to be when you’re skydiving? Is it really that safe? The truthful answer is that skydiving is not playing golf. There are some serious risks involved, and just like with any extreme sport, you need to develop the right skill set, attitude, and knowledge base to increase your likelihood of enjoying the sport for several years.
Statistics can easily be manipulated. You might have seen some statistics that made it look dangerous. You might have seen other statistics that made it look safe. You shouldn’t pay attention to the statistics that tell you how incredibly safe it is, as if it’s the same as sitting in front of your TV and flipping through the channels. There are about ten deaths from skydiving each year in the USA. However, skydivers go jumping hundreds of thousands times each year. There are some very serious risks. There are very few fatalities compared to the number of jumps, however. The chances of a death can be effectively and easily mitigated through good judgment and training.
Most of the people who go skydiving are students, and there are very few deaths that involve skydivers who are students. This is because of the kind of student skydiving equipment that is used, and also because most schools provide great instruction. Student skydiving gear is made to be very forgiving and easy to use.
Skydiving accidents hardly ever result from bad luck or equipment failure. It’s more about the attitude, skill, and knowledge. It’s mostly about you as an individual. It is a dangerous sport, but if you exercise your new skills and learn how to skydive, and stay balanced and cool, and do everything you’re taught, then you should be just fine.
