Why Would Anyone Jump Out of a Perfectly Good Airplane? There is nothing that compares to the world's most exciting sport, Skydiving! Advances in equipment and training have made it safer and easier for people to enjoy the incredible experience of freefalling from an airplane and sailing along side the clouds under a modern sport parachute.

How Can I Make My First Jump? There are three training methods for making your first skydive. Georgia Skydiving Center offers all three. Tandem, Accelerated Freefall, and Static Line.

Which Type Of Jump Is The Best? That's a very tough one to answer. A lot of the answer depends on your goals. Tandem allows you to freefall for about 45 seconds and fly the canopy for 6 to 8 minutes with the assistance of an instructor. Accelerated Freefall, (AFF) also allows you to freefall for about 45 seconds and fly the canopy for 6 to 8 minutes except you are flying by yourself. (In freefall two AFF instructors supervise you). When making a Static Line Jump you will exit the plane at 4000 feet and the parachute will deploy immediately allowing for about 6 to 8 minutes of canopy flight, once again flying by yourself. If you'd like to experience freefall and canopy flight with very little required training, tandem is probably for you. If you want to make just one parachute jump or if you want to learn to skydive, aff is the fastest way to become a licensed skydiver. If you want to make just one parachute jump by yourself for the least amount of money, or become a licensed skydiver on a budget static line is probably for you. Any first jump is an unmatched experience for the money.

More About The Three Methods

How Long Will It Take? Tandem, plan to be here half a day. AFF and Static Line, plan to be at the Drop Zone from 9:00am until dark.

Is There A Weight Restriction? The weight limit for all three types of jumps is 250lbs.

What Will The Skydive Feel Like? The sensation of freefall is more like flying than falling. You will never feel that "weightless" feeling in your stomach. If you're Tandem jumping you'll never feel anyone behind you in freefall either. Once the parachute is open the flight is quiet and inspiring.

What Happens If The Parachute Does Not Open? In the unlikely event that the main parachute does not open properly, all sport parachute systems contain two parachutes, a main and a reserve. The reserve can only be inspected and maintained by an FAA certified parachute rigger. All of our parachutes are equipped with the most reliable and modern Automatic Activation Devices (AAD’s) also.

Isn’t The Landing Hard? Ram-Air (square) parachutes these days fly like an aircraft or gliders and sail through the air. They can slow down a great deal, so most of our landings are very soft, either stand up or sit down. Injuries are rare.

Will I Be Scared? Maybe, or maybe not. It’s human nature to be frightened of the unknown. You will definitely feel a surge of excitement before the jump. During the jump itself, you’ll probably feel a thrill that you’ve never experienced before – enjoy it.

How Long Is The Class & Can I Jump The Same Day? Tandem is an hour long class, but plan to be here half the day. Static Line classes take approximately 5 hours and Accelerated freefall class is about 6 hours. You can train and jump in the same day. Plan on spending the whole day.

Can I Get Pictures Of My Skydive? Yes, You can capture your experience of a lifetime with a professionally edited video and 35mm stills. (available for a additional charge)

Which Days Can I Do This? Student training is offered on only Saturday & Sunday during the winter. I do Friday evening classes by appointment so the jump can happen the next morning too. Week days are available for groups by appointment. Call or stop by the drop zone to schedule your first jump and training.

How High Will We Go? Static Line jumps are made from 4,000ft. Tandem and AFF altitudes are between 10,500ft and 13,500ft, depending on which of our aircraft you go up in.

How do I sign up? Choose a date that fits your schedule then call Georgia Skydiving Center 1-706-971-9029 to register. Although we welcome "walk-ins", those pre-registered and with a $50 dollar deposit will be accommodated first. You can place your deposit with a Visa or MasterCard, or stop by the drop zone sometime before your scheduled date. Your deposits are part of our advertised price and not billed to your account unless you fail to show up without calling at least two days in advance.

What About The Weather? Skydiving is a sport governed very much by wind and cloud conditions. If you are scheduled to make a tandem jump and conditions look bad for jumping, we recommend calling the drop zone or come out anyway to see how it looks. AFF and Static Line students will complete the ground training for their jump regardless of weather conditions. Once you have completed training you can jump anytime during normal days of operation and good weather conditions.

What Should I Wear? You should wear comfortable sneakers and clothes appropriate for the season. Shorts and T-shirt on a hot day and if it is a cooler day long pants and a long sleeve shirt. When making the jump we provide jumpsuit, helmet and goggles.

Looking forward to meeting you
